Anabolic steroid users tend to take supraphysiologic doses or multiple steroids and other drugs simultaneously which increases risk of adverse effects. The 17-α-alkylation modification allows steroids to be taken orally, but the slower clearance in the liver makes them more hepatotoxic. Side effects become more pronounced with longer dianabol cycles or lack of testosterone base. Additionally, this steroid enhances red blood cell production, improving oxygen delivery to muscles. Doses as high as 100 mg can also be taken daily and have been shown to be beneficial in recovering testosterone levels in young men after 2–3 months. This fluid retention is a direct result of estrogen conversion and increased sodium retention, especially in users who are not following a clean diet or monitoring electrolyte balance. One of the most well-known side effects of Dianabol is its tendency to aromatize, meaning it converts to estrogen in the body through the enzyme aromatase.
